NASA Credits ASRC Aerospace for Spearheading Radiation Shield Research that will Save Astronauts’ Lives

Greenbelt, Maryland, June 29, 2005 — A force field for astronauts? What once was a fantasy on Star Trek is now an advanced concept design being developed by ASRC scientists, John Lane and Charles Buhler, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC). With support from NASA’s Institute for Advanced Concepts, which focuses on “far-out” ideas,

a force field created by negative and positive charged portable spheres, which would protect astronauts from potentially deadly radiation, could become a reality in the near future. Radiation poses many serious problems for space exploration, but the development of an effective force field has the potential to usher in a new era of exploration to the moon and beyond.
